Kerry Weston selected for Haygate by-election

Liberal Democrats have selected local NHS worker Kerry Weston as their candidate in the Wellington Town Council by-election.
Shropshire born and bred, Kerry grew up in Broseley and moved to Wellington eight years ago, where she lives with her young family. Since moving to Wellington, Kerry has experienced first hand the problems antisocial behaviour can cause for local families. She is determined to work with police to see these issues addressed.
Kerry's priorities for Haygate are to:
- Tackle antisocial behaviour: Antisocial behaviour has gone unchecked in areas of Haygate for too long. Kerry will liaise with the local policing team to seek a solution.
 - Campaign for better SEND provision: Support for students with special educational needs and disabilities in our schools is not good enough. Although not in the direct remit of the town council, Kerry will use her access to borough councillors to lobby for better support.
 - Listen to you: Kerry will keep in touch all year round, be contactable and act on the local concerns residents raise.

Residents are seeing the election, on Thursday 20th November, as an opportunity to send a strong message to Keir Starmer's Labour. Whether it’s Keir Starmer refusing to rule out manifesto-breaking tax increases, too little action to address access to GP appointments or the kicking the can down the road on social care reform – people feel hugely disappointed.
Kerry has the backing of former Wellington Mayor Cllr Anthony Lowe. Cllr Lowe said:
“I’m supporting Kerry because she cares passionately about Wellington. She will give Haygate residents a strong voice on the town council.”
