Telford & Wrekin Council By-elections

Dawley and Aqueduct ward

Cathy Salter

Cathy Salter

"I have lived in Telford for over 30 years. I work at the Princess Royal hospital and I am committed to improve health and social care services for local people. My three grown up children attended the Captain Webb Primary school and while they were there I worked in the school, first as a Teaching Assistant and later as a Learning Mentor. I understand the difficulties about road safety around our schools and would work with Liberal Democrat colleagues on the council on this issue. During the protracted lockdown we have all come to appreciate our local green spaces more and I am passionate about preserving and protecting them. Anti social behaviour within Dawley high street continues to be a problem and I would look to work with community groups, the Town Council and Police to remedy the situation. I believe that by working together we can improve things for all residents; I pledge to be active, accessible and hard working. "

Donnington ward

David Ellams

My priorities for Donnington are:

  • Fly-tipping. Telford's fly-tipping rate is nearly twice that of Wolverhampton. I want to tackle the causes of the problem, as well as enforcement. People without cars cannot get to the recycling centre, and roadside collection is expensive and inconvenient. The council's one-off offer of free collection was a start but went nowhere near far enough. I want make sure our council learns from what has worked elsewhere.
  • Speeding. For example on Trench Road and Wombridge Road. More light-up speed indicators needed to remind drivers to slow down.
  • The state of our roads. Potholes can cause damage to our cars and risk injuring cyclists. I will chase up the council until these are repaired.

If you want a pro-active councillor who is about action, not just committee meetings, vote for me on Thursday 6th May.
