Retired police officer Mark Wiggin standing in Newport South by-election

Mark Wiggin has been selected as the Liberal Democrat Focus Team candidate in the Town Council by-election on Thursday 29th September.

The by-election was triggered by Nick Garvey's resignation due to lack of wheelchair access preventing him from attending meetings. Mark works with young people with learning disabilities and is a strong advocate of disabled people's rights.

"I was shocked that Nick felt he needed to resign," Mark told Focus. "We must sort out access urgently. This is just not good enough.

Mark Wiggin's priorities for Newport are:

• Wheelchair access - especially to Town Council meetings
• Community Policing - campaigning for a Newport police base
• Listening to you - being a responsive local councillor
